Brexit - what does this mean for Environmental Legislation?

No change anticipated in the short-term

Release date: 27/06/2016

There will be no change in the application of environmental legislation immediately. Most of the laws governing businesses' legal obligations to environmental impacts were drafted in Europe, but they have been adopted and ratified as UK law. This means that they still apply and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.Once Britain has decided whether to trigger article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty, which will give notice of our legal intention to leave the EU, the laws will continue to apply unless they are repealed by the UK Parliament. The basis message in terms of environmental legislation is that it's business as usual and don't hold your breath on anything happening for at least two or more years.
